February 15 is the Deadline for TwinSpires' Online Betting in PA

On January 12, the Churchill Downs Inc. website made a statement that TwinSpires would cease operating its online sports betting and iGaming businesses in Pennsylvania on February 15.

This comes a short time after CDI’s statement on January 9 that it had achieved an agreement with British operator bet365 to transfer its market access for Pennsylvania sports and iGaming activities to that company. There is no set date for when bet365 will be live in the state because the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board must still evaluate and approve its license application.

Long anticipated, the phase-out of TwinSpires in Pennsylvania followed CDI’s announcement in February 2022 that it had concluded that online gambling, particularly sports betting, was not sufficiently profitable to warrant continuing. Operators affiliated with CDI’s Presque Isle Downs & Casino have consistently been among the least successful in terms of revenue among Pennsylvania’s 18 online casinos and 14 retail sportsbooks.

TwinSpires informed users in a message that no new deposits would be accepted starting on January 23 and that players would have until April 17 to withdraw money from their accounts.

The operator made it clear that after Wednesday, February 15, 2023, neither sports bets nor casino games will be accessible to the players.

Customers were advised that in addition to visiting the website, they can contact Twinspires by phone at 877-774-7371 or via email at [email protected].
